I used to go here every 2 weeks to get a hair cut.I've since moved my barber as I don't live near anymore. They weren't chatty but they were efficient! I would walk in and within 5 mins be getting a hair cut.I don't think they took too much care and attention but for £10 it's hard to knock!
I'm pleased to be giving the Cornershop Barber Shop, its' first review in 2016 and only second in the past 12 months, and I'm pleased to announce, it is still quite a nice place to go for a haircut. As regular readers of my reviews will know, I'm with Jonny Q and Michael B on this one, I hate having my haircut done and hate the awkwardness of chit-chat with my barber, and just want to get in and out of a place, with minimal effort, this place is right by Stevenson Square in the Northern Quarter, opposite the Old Koffeepot on the corner of Hilton Street. It is quite a nice place, and it charges £10 for a haircut which isn't bad considering I'm used to paying £15 at Supercuts and Kim-Creative.Com in the Arndale. The barber was nice enough, he wasn't as friendly as I've seen before at the other places listed above, but he did do a quick haircut, upon request at 6 minutes.Overall, the haircut was okay until he used the scissors, it felt like he went on for hours, being really heavy handed, cutting big chunks of hair with the scissors, and then banging the comb on my head near enough every-time, which shown hints of aggression and perhaps it being too rushed, this probably felt like the longest part of my haircut, even though looking back it was probably nothing more than 1/3 of the time taken, but if you would of told me that part of the haircut, took double what the whole haircut taken, I would have believe you.I got a decent haircut as well, which was much better than other cuts I have had before, but perhaps still not as good as Supercuts in the Manchester Arndale. It is also open on a Sunday between 12 and 6pm which is handy, and when I visited, it didn't seem really busy and I got seated and my haircut straight away. I noticed they did have a few newspapers on the table for people to look at while waiting. My search for a barbershop has been a long one, I've devoted a long list to find one on Yelp, I hope now my search is over. I hope this place doesn't suffer with "Second-time barber blues", I continue to get a lot so for now, I feel it only deserves a 3.UPDATE: I now feel Cornershop deserves a single one star rating mainly down to a huge decline in service and the overall finished haircut of late, the fact they don't do appointments and often leave you waiting with the staff not seeming overly friendly makes the situation worse also.
I've visited the Cornershop twice now and have had different experiences on both occasions. My first visit was generally good. I paid around about £12 for a basic men's cut (clippered on sides, trimmed on top) and felt it was ok for the price paid. The barber that cut it made conversation and took a reasonable amount of care given the fairly low price. The end product, whilst not exactly how I'd have liked it, was satisfactory. The second time however it wasn't. Firstly the shop opened half an hour later than advertised, so I had to wait for it to open whilst the staff smoked outside - they weren't in a hurry! I was then seen to by a man who clearly hadn't woken up yet and made no effort to talk throughout the 10 minute cut. My hair usually take 20 minutes to do properly so this was far too quick. The look after reflected this... The fringe had been chopped pretty brutally, without asking about preferred length. The top also had a horribly uneven choppy look. Overall my experience wasn't great. Whilst relatively cheap, the customer service was abrupt, the cut was poor and the shop was actually unclean (despite being the first cut of the day, the scissors and surfaces were covered in hair).
Fantastic walk in service. £10 cut great value. Chris did a perfect job- thanks!
After spending years trying to find somewhere that cuts my hair properly and doesn't pretend to be something they're not....I have been having my hair cut here for 6 months now and can guarantee a great cut each time.I have my favourite guy, who threads my eyebrows but they are all great gents and real chatty.
